RosieQueen Latifah was born Dana Elaine Owens, March 18, 1970, in Newark. Latifah was the second child born to Lance and Rita Owens. She is most famous for her social activism, acting skills and ability to rhyme. A Muslim cousin has given Latifah the name "delicate, sensitive" when she was just eight years old. Latifah began singing in the choir of Shiloh Baptist Church in Bloomfield, New Jersey, and was the first person to perform in public when she sang a rendition of "Home" as one of two Dorothys in a production of The Wizard of Oz at St. Anne's parochial school. Latifah's mom was a major influencer. She was extremely in touch with students and the music. Mark James, a local disc jockey popularly known as D.J., was invited to the event. Mark the 45 King was invited to perform at a dance school.
